Daily Brief: Friday, July 3rd

Daily Brief: Friday, July 3, 2015

Last business day.

Friday will be hot with a generous dose of impending celebration of Independence!

Today we remember Thomas:

Apostle Thomas is mentioned among the number of the apostles in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke; but it is in John’s Gospel that his significance is revealed. Firstly, he is heard encouraging the other disciples to go to Judea with Jesus; then, not knowing what Jesus meant when he talked about where he was to go elicited the answer that Jesus was himself the Way. But probably most famously he was the apostle notably unconvinced by reports of the resurrection of Jesus, causing Jesus to show him the marks in his hands and feet and side. Thomas then proclaims the words that have been described as the great climax to John’s Gospel by saying to Jesus, ‘My Lord and my God!’

Prayer for today:

Almighty and everlasting God, by whose Spirit the whole body of your faithful people is governed and sanctified: Receive our supplications and prayers, which we offer before you for all members of your holy Church, that in their vocation and ministry they may truly and devoutly serve you; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
