The gift of our shared faith and of the Church is that we are called beyond all other loyalties to work together for the Kingdom of God. We agree that today’s political issues matter as we strive for justice and peace, but we pray that we might cling to our ideologies and our power less tightly than we cling to each other.
Sweltering down the streets of Salt Lake all week, living in a desert, and on the edge of the Salt Lake is perhaps the perfect metaphor for where we find ourselves with this work of reimagining the structure of the Episcopal Church.
Does the call to continue the study of this topic represent an eternal effort to stall the issue at hand?
As we gather together as the Episcopal Church, perhaps we could step outside of the legislative comfort zone of passing resolutions and enter into the difficult work of honest conversations about race.
